Artistic director of Locarno Film Festival (2020 – ). Former General Delegate of Venice International Film Critic’s Week (2016-2020). Acted as member of the Artistic Team of the IFFR – International Film Festival Rotterdam. Member of the EFA (European Film Academy) and David di Donatello Academy. Worked with Eidg. Filmkommission (Switzerland). Programmer and curator for Visions du Réel Festival de cinema de Nyon (2010-2020). He has programmed also for the Torino Film Festival, Festival dei Popoli (Florence, Italy), and the Festival Internazionale del Film di Roma. Author of books and essays on Hong Kong Cinema and postmodern action films regularly contributes for the daily newspaper il manifesto and the weekly Film Tv. He published a collection of short stories (2010). Critic in chief for monthly music magazine Rumore. He curated the art exhibition Il di/segno del cinema – The De/Sign of Cinema (Cagliari, Italy).
