About Karama Yemen
The Karama Yemen: Human Rights Film Festival was launched in 2019 with the support of The Youth of the World Together Organization (YWT), a youth non-profit that provides platforms to empower the youth and create positive change in their communities, support peacebuilding, human rights and enrich global understanding using arts, cultural, and media.
Karama Yemen aims to advocate for human rights and social justice, encourage debate, and open a democratic dialogue on human rights issues by screening films from different parts of the world. The festival also serves as an important launchpad for Yemini talent and audiences to discover the diverse aspects of Yemeni life, the culture, and intimate portraits of life within the country.
The festival features physical screenings in three different cinemas: five days in Hadramout (June 8-12), two days in Taiz (June 14-15), and three days in Aden (June 17-19). Additionally, virtual screenings will be available for nine days (June 13-21), providing accessibility to audiences worldwide. The 14-day festival will feature films that defend human rights issues and rekindle the values of justice, democracy, and equality.
In light of the challenging circumstances that the country is currently facing, a selection of 28 short films, comprising both fiction and documentaries, aims to revive the essence of human rights. These films strengthen the belief that freedom, dignity, and equality are fundamental rights that must never be compromised, violated, or lost. Through the festival, filmmakers unite their willpower and leverage their artistic tools to remind and reaffirm the inherent entitlements that everyone rightfully deserves. The festival program showcases an impressive array of international films from countries such as Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Sudan, Tunisia, Pakistan, Ghana, Croatia, Cameroon, Somalia, Finland, Colombia, Spain, Brazil, Taiwan, and France. This diverse representation underscores the global nature of human rights struggles and promotes cross-cultural understanding.
In addition, festival-goers will be able to access a programme of masterclasses and panel discussions featuring Yemenis and international industry creatives to exchange knowledge, raise awareness, enjoy and debate. Karama Yemen’s competitive sections will recognize remarkable creative filmmaking achievements, and Barran awards will be presented across four categories: Best Short Fiction Film, Best Short Documentary, Best Yemeni Film.
This Year’s Theme:
The fourth edition of the festival aims to reaffirm the non-negotiable rights of freedom, dignity, and equality under the theme “A Legitimate Right.” The festival showcases films that defend human rights issues and rekindle the values of justice, democracy, and equality.
About YWT Organization:
Youth of the World Together (YWT) is a Yemeni Civil Society Organization with a proven track record of establishing safe platforms in Yemen. Since its inception, YWT has been dedicated to bringing about social change, fostering innovation, and creating economic opportunities for Yemeni communities by empowering and mobilizing youth through art, culture, media, and ICT. The organization’s primary focus has been to enable youth to voice their concerns by utilizing arts, culture, and social media to promote human rights, peace, and democracy messages to a wider audience.
Over the course of seven years, YWT has made significant contributions to youth development in Yemen. Through its experience and partnerships, the organization continues to enhance global understanding of how to connect young people with opportunities for a brighter future. One key aspect that YWT has addressed is the role of creative industries in empowering Yemeni youth by enhancing their skills, capacities, and abilities to address the challenges they face in their communities. Despite the ongoing conflict in the country, YWT firmly believes in the power of arts, culture, media, and technology to educate, raise awareness, and inspire youth to drive social change.
عن مهرجان كرامة اليمن
”مهرجان كرامة اليمن لأفلام حقوق الإنسان“ هو مبادرة لمنظمة ”شباب العالم معاً“، وهي مؤسسة شبابية غير ربحية تسعى لتمكين الأصوات الشبابية من إحداث تغييرات إيجابية في مجتمعاتها، ودعم أنشطة السلام، وحقوق الإنسان من خلال الفن والثقافة والاعلام. وقد انطلق المهرجان في عام 2019 ، بهدف الدفاع عن قضايا حقوق الإنسان والعدالة المجتمعية، وفتح الباب للحوار الديمقراطي البنّاء من مختلف أنحاء العالم. ويعدّ المهرجان أيضاً منصّة هامة لدعم المواهب وإثراء الجماهير والتأكيد على مدى تنوع الجوانب الاجتماعية والثقافية والحياتية في المجتمع
مع برنامج متنوّع يمتدّ على 14 يومًا، يعرض المهرجان أفلاماً تدافع عن القضايا المرتبطة بحقوق الإنسان وتعيد تسليط الضوء على قِيَم العدالة والديمقراطية والمساواة.
“وتتخلّل المهرجان عروضٌ بالحضور الشخصي في ثلاث صالات سينما: خمسة أيام في حضرموت (بين 8 و12 حزيران/يونيو)، ويومان في تعز (14 و15 حزيران/يونيو)، وثلاثة أيام في عدن (من 17 إلى 19 حزيران/يونيو). بالإضافة إلى ذلك، ستتوفر عروضٌ افتراضية لمدّة تسعة أيام (من 13 إلى 21 حزيران/يونيو) لإتاحة إمكانية مشاهدة الجماهير من مختلف أقطار العالم. تنفذ شباب العالم معًا المهرجان في المحافظات بالتعاون مع عدد من الشركاء، حيث تعمل مؤسسة مدارات كشريك منفذ في حضرموت، وتتولى مؤسسة عدن أجين تنظيم العروض في عدن، بينما تقوم شركة جولدن ميديا بتنفيذ العروض في تعز.
على ضوء الأوضاع الصعبة التي تشهدها البلاد حالياً، تمّ اختيار 28 فيلماً قصيراً روائياً ووثائقياً يهدف كلٌّ منها إلى إعادة إحياء جوهر حقوق الإنسان. وترسّخ هذه الأفلام المعتقدَ بأنّ الحرّية والكرامة والمساواة تشكّل حقوقاً أساسية لا يجدر المساومة عليها أو انتهاكها أو ضياعها. من خلال المهرجان، يوحّد المخرجون قوّة إرادتهم ويستندون إلى أدواتهم الفنية للتذكير وإعادة التأكيد على الحقوق المتأصلة التي يستحقّ الجميع أن يتمتع بها.
يعرض البرنامج مجموعةً ملفتة من الأفلام الدولية القادمة من بلدان مثل الأردن، وفلسطين، وسوريا، ولبنان، والسودان، وتونس، وباكستان، وغانا، وكرواتيا، والكاميرون، والصومال، وفنلندا، وكولومبيا، وإسبانيا، والبرازيل، وتايوان، وفرنسا. ويركّز هذا التمثيل على الطبيعة العالمية للنضال من أجل حقوق الإنسان ويشجّع على التفاهم العابر للثقافات.
إضافة إلى عروض الأفلام، يمكن للجمهور المشاركة في سلسلة من المحاضرات وورش العمل والندوات تضم نخبة من الخبراء والفنانين من اليمن وخارجه. كما يسعى المهرجان للاحتفاء بالإبداعات السينمائية عبر جوائز برَّان لتكريم أفضل فيلم روائي قصير، وأفضل فيلم وثائقي قصير، وأفضل فيلم يمني.
موضوع هذا العام
يأتي المهرجان في دورته الرابعة تحت عنوان “حقّ مستحق”. وتأتي هذه الدورة، التي ستجري بين 8 و21 حزيران/يونيو 2023، لتعيد وتؤكّد على الحقوق غير القابلة للمساومة المتعلقة بالحرّية والكرامة والمساواة.
منظمة شباب العالم معاً
لمنظمة المجتمع المدني اليمنية “شباب العالم معاً” سجلٌّ حافل بإنشاء المنصات الآمنة في اليمن. وقد كرّست المنظمة جهودها منذ إنشائها لإحداث تغيير اجتماعي ودعم الإبداع وإتاحة الفرص الاقتصادية للمجتمعات اليمنية، وذلك من خلال تمكين الشباب وحشده عن طريق الفنّ والثقافة والإعلام وتكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات. وقد ركّزت المنظمة بشكل أساسي على تمكين الشباب للتعبير عن مخاوفه من خلال الفنون والثقافة ووسائل التواصل الاجتماعي بهدف تعميم الرسائل المرتبطة بحقوق الإنسان والسلام والديمقراطية وإيصالها إلى جمهور أوسع نطاقاً.
على مدى سبع سنوات، ساهمت منظمة “شباب العالم معاً” إلى حدّ كبير في تنمية الشباب في اليمن. وهي تُواصل من خلال تجربتها وشراكاتها في ترسيخ المفاهيم العالمية المرتبطة بكيفية توفير للشباب الفرص التي تقوده إلى مستقبل أكثر إشراقاً. ومن الجوانب الأساسية التي عالجتها منظمة “شباب العالم معاً” دورُ الصناعات الإبداعية في تمكين الشباب اليمني عبر تحسين مهاراته وقدراته وإمكاناته لمواجهة التحديات التي يشهدها في مجتمعاته. وعلى رغم النزاع القائم في البلاد، تؤمن المنظمة إيماناً راسخاً بقدرة الفنون والثقافة والإعلام والتكنولوجيا على تعليم الشباب ورفع مستوى وعيه وإلهامه للدفع نحو تغيير اجتماعي.
