Synopsis

When Jasmin’s parents decide to move their family back to her dad’s home country, Somaliland, she is faced with the biggest change of her life. She has to say goodbye to the familiar playgrounds in the Finnish suburbs, as well as her best friend Maryam. When Jasmin arrives, an avalanche of things hit her: the streets are not paved, people speak so loudly it sounds like arguing, there are no playgrounds, people don’t use cutlery for eating, camels roam the city streets. After recovering from her culture shock Jasmin starts to realise there is actually something familiar here; nobody stares at her for looking different like back in Finland. Maybe having two homes is not so bad after all?

عندما قرر والدا ياسمين إعادة عائلتهما إلى موطن والدها، الصومال؛ لتواجه أكبر تغيير في حياتها، حيث إنها ستضطر أن تودع الملاعب المألوفة في الضواحي الفنلندية، وصديقتها المقربة مريم. وعندما وصلت ياسمين، ضربها سيل من الأشياء: فالشوارع ليست مرصوفة، والناس يتحدثون بصوت عالٍ كأنهم يتجادلون، ولا توجد ملاعب، ولا يستخدم الناس أدوات المائدة لتناول الطعام، والجِمال تتجول بحرية في شوارع المدينة. وما أن شرعت بالتعافي من صدمتها الثقافية، بدأت ياسمين تدرك أن هناك شيئاً مألوفًا هنا؛ لا أحد يحدق بها لأنها تبدو مختلفة كما لو كانت في فنلندا … لربما وجود منزلين ليس بهذا السوء بعد كل شيء؟

 

Director Bio

Inka Achté is a Helsinki-based filmmaker with more than 15 years of experience working in the film and TV industries. Inka started her career as a director/journalist at YLE (The Finnish National Broadcaster), working at the departments of factual, youth, and cultural programs. After graduating with an MA in documentary directing at the National Film and Television School in the UK in 2012, she worked as a Sales Agent, first at Taskovski Films and then at Autlook Filmsales, while also directing her debut feature Boys Who Like Girls (2018). Her second feature doc Golden Land (2022) is currently travelling festivals worldwide and has won awards at Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival and Tampere Film Festival in Finland. Alongside directing Inka co-runs Raina Film Festival Distribution, an agency focusing on festival distribution of high quality short and documentary films and works as the Head of Programming for Docpoint -The Helsinki Documentary Film Festival. Hanna Karppinen has studied scriptwriting in Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki. Her first film school was The New York Film Academy in New York and she has also studied in Estonia in Tallinn University’s Baltic Film, Media and Arts School. Hanna works with films, tv and podcasts as scriptwriter, journalist, director and producer. She has co-written the feature documentary Golden Land (2022) with Inka Achté and directed a short documentary for children called No Place Like Home (2014). إنكا أشتي مخرجة أفلام مقيمة في هلسنكي، ولديها أكثر من 15 عام من الخبرة في العمل في السينما والتلفزيون. بدأت إنكا حياتها المهنية كمخرجة وصحفية في شركة الإذاعة الفنلندية (YLE)، حيث عملت في البرامج الواقعية والشبابية والثقافية. بعد تخرجها بدرجة الماجستير في الإخراج الوثائقي من المدرسة الوطنية للسينما والتلفزيون في المملكة المتحدة في 2012. عملت كوكيل مبيعات أولاً في شركة تاسكوفسكي للأفلام ” Taskovski Films ” ثم في شركة أوت لوك لمبيعات الأفلام “Autlook Filmsales”. أخرجت فيلمها الأول انجذاب الشباب للشابات “Boys Who Like Girls” في 2018، وفيلمها الثاني وهو فيلم وثائقي طويل بعنوان أرض من ذهب ” Golden Land ” في 2022 ويسافر حالياً في مهرجانات في جميع أنحاء العالم وفاز بعدة جوائز منها في مهرجان ثيسالونيكي للأفلام الوثائقية، ومهرجان تامبيري السينمائي في فنلندا. إلى جانب إخراج إنكا، هي تشارك في إدارة شركة ” راينا لتوزيع الأفلام – Raina Film Distribution” – وكالة تركز على توزيع المهرجانات للأفلام القصيرة والوثائقية عالية الجودة – وتعمل فيها كمدير البرامج لمهرجان هلسنكي للأفلام الوثائقية ” Docpoint “. هانا كاربينين درست كتابة السيناريو في جامعة متروبوليا للعلوم التطبيقية في هلسنكي، وكانت أكاديمية نيويورك للأفلام في نيويورك هي أول مدرسة لها للسينما، ودرست أيضاً في إستونيا في مدرسة البلطيق للسينما والإعلام والفنون التابعة لجامعة تالين. تعمل هانا ككاتبة سيناريو وصحفية ومخرجة ومنتجة في صناعة الأفلام والتلفزيون والبود كاست، وقد شاركت في كتابة الفيلم الوثائقي الطويل أرض من ذهب ” Golden Land ” في 2022 مع إنكا أشتي، وأخرجت فيلماً وثائقياً قصيراً للأطفال بعنوان ” لا مكان كالمنزل – No Place Like Home” في 2014.
